Challenge

This small, 1,685 square foot home in Danville, came under new ownership and needed to be remodeled to fit the new home owner’s design style and functional needs. With strong structural “bones”, this home just needed small remodeling improvements throughout the home to make it absolutely perfect for the new homeowner. As a gourmet chef, the homeowner’s remodeling needs started in the kitchen—needing a second entry to and from the kitchen, more natural light and functional storage space. Her needs extended from there to the rest of the house—into the living room, atrium, hall bath, laundry room, primary bedroom and primary bath.

Solution

The covered patio was enclosed and made part of the kitchen. This created a larger eating space and allowed for a second entrance from the kitchen into the living room. It also allowed for the addition of a beautiful yet functional bar area, more cabinets for storage and a new microwave/convection oven combination (complete with a warming drawer). As part of the kitchen remodel, a functional desk area was also added along the outside wall, along with a sky light above. We raised the ceiling, relocated the stove and added a soffit, which created a softer transformation from the dropped ceiling. An additional window was installed, along with a new glass slider to create an abundance of natural light, further brightening up the space.

Result

This beautiful transformation didn’t stop at the kitchen, with the homeowner soon indulging in a serene and tranquil setting for her new primary bedroom and bath. Dark cabinets did not fit the homeowner’s taste and were replaced with clean white cabinets and sleek contemporary fixtures. A wall was removed from the primary bedroom seating area to open up the space and allow for better flow; and new box beams were installed to add interest to the ceiling.
