Many of you who have worked with Gayler Construction on a bathroom or kitchen remodel may have met Kathy Sulon of The Plumbery. We are blessed to work closely with Kathy, who is a Builder and Designer Trade Sales Rep at The Plumbery showroom in Dublin. She helps our clients find just the right plumbing fixtures and furniture for our new construction projects and remodels.
We recently asked Kathy to weigh in on some of the latest trends in bathrooms, and she was happy to share her thoughts with us.
According to Kathy, more and more visitors to the showroom are interested in transitional style pieces with cleaner, simpler lines and fewer embellishments. And while some customers opt for custom finishes, many are choosing polished nickel and chrome finishes for faucets and other fixtures. Brushed nickel and bronze are also top choices.
Kathy also sees a trend toward free standing bathtubs, like the one shown here by Duravit. And because of new water restriction regulations, clients are moving away from huge custom “car wash” showers with multiple shower heads and instead choosing a steam shower. This provides a luxurious alternative that doesn’t use a high volume of water.
Another tendency is for people to select furniture-style pieces for their vanities. The Plumbery carries a number of manufacturers offering furniture-type vanities, which give customers multiple options for vanity tops with integrated sinks, including marble, granite or ceramic. Additional choices are available in vessel sinks made with materials such as glass or copper.
Some new innovations in medicine cabinets have also started attracting more interest. These include things like mirrors with imbedded television screens or lighting behind the medicine cabinet so that the mirror glows from within.
